Pomerape climbing

Parinacota: (6,330m).
Duration: 12 days.
Difficulty: Non-technical, easy high-altitude ascent.
Minimum: two people.
Date: April to November.

The Parinacota Volcano famous for its indisputable and perfect conical shape. It is located in the middle of the Lauca National Park surrounded by Lake Chungara, the Bofedal de Caquena and its neighbor the Pomerape and Sajama Volcanoes in Bolivia. This place has a fragile and rich ecosystem where it is possible to see the perfect balance between man and nature in relation to the Llamas, the Alpacas, the earth and the universe. Exceeding 6,300 meters of altitude and its enormous glazed slopes make this ascent a great challenge in the northern limit of Chile.

Day 1. Arrival in Santiago

Reception of the group at the Santiago de Chile Airport. Transfer by private vehicle to the Hotel in Santiago. Check of personal mountain equipment.

Day 2. Santiago - Arica - Putre

In the morning, transfer to Santiago airport. Air transportation from Santiago to Arica. Here, the expedition guide awaits us to start the transfer to Putre. Place of accommodation for acclimatization at 3,600m. Hotel.

Day 3. Putre - Jurasi Hot Springs

Breakfast in the morning. Walk through the town of Putre and trekking to the Jurasi Hot Springs located at an altitude of 4,000m. Asado or country lunch. We will also make gentle walks in this ideal place for acclimatization. Return to Putre by vehicle. Hotel.

Day 4. Putre - Lauca - Bofedal de Caquena National Park

Breakfast in the morning. Transportation from Putre to Rinconada base camp. View of Lauca National Park, Lake Chungara and Villa Parinacota. and arrival at the Bofedal de Caquena 4500m. Ideal route to see the altiplano towns, their churches and the flora and fauna. Camp and dinner.

Day 5. Acclimatization Trek

Walk through the places of Caquena and surroundings for the benefit of acclimatization. Admiration of the flora and fauna. Camp and dinner.

Day 6. Acclimatization Trek

Breakfast in the morning. Walk around the Bofedal de Caquena and Rinconada sector. Camp and dinner.

Day 7. Field 1-Height field

Breakfast in the morning. A long day of approaching the high camp, where we will reach the snow line at 5,200m. In this section we will use pack animals such as donkeys or Llamas that will help us transport our equipment. From 4 to 6 hours to the high camp.

Day 8 Rest.

Rest day at high camp. Short 2 hour hike. Camp.

Day 9. High field-Summit of the Parinacota Volcano (6,280m.)

Long summit day from 10 to 12 hours round trip. Camp. Dinner.

Day 10. Alto-Quaquena-Arica field

Long return to Caquena from 3 to 4 hours. Here our transport awaits us for the transfer to Arica. Hotel. Summit celebration.

Day 11. Arica-Santiago

Return flight to Santiago. Hotel.

Day 12. Return flight

Transfer to Santiago airport. Return flight.

Two nights in a hostel in Putre, in a double room with breakfast.

Dining tent in base camp and C1, with tables and chairs.
Radio communication UHF and VHF.
