Expedition to one of the highest peaks in America with the importance of being the highest archaeological site on the planet located in the heart of the Andean desert and with all the indigenous-Andean history at its feet and at its summit. Famous when the National Geographic Society found Inca mummies on its summit and showed it to the world for its knowledge.
For being an isolated six thousand that dominates the altiplanic landscape and for its history make this expedition one of the most beautiful, remote and interesting in the Andes of Chile.
Day 1. Arrival in Santiago
Reception of the group at the Santiago de Chile Airport. Transfer by private vehicle to the Hotel in Santiago. Check of personal mountain equipment.
Day 2. Santiago-Calama-San Pedro-Valle de la Luna
Air transportation to Calama and subsequent transportation to San Pedro with a visit to the Valley of the Moon.
Day 3. Pukara de Quitor-Museum
Walk to the Pukara de Quitor and visit the Museum, to see the historical and geological importance of this Andean area. 4 hours of walking.
Day 4. Catarpe and trekking in the San Pedro River Canyon
Transportation to Catarpe Inca center that was the administrative place of the ancient inhabitants of the area. To later walk through the canyon of the San Pedro river. 5 hours of walking. Return to San Pedro, Hotel.
Day 5. Geyser del Tatio-Ascencion del Tatio Norte-San Pedro
Transportation and visit to Geiser del Tatio 4200m. To then make a trekking to the Cerro Tatio Norte of 4900m in a time of 4 hours. Return to San Pedro. Hotel.
Day 6. San Pedro-Llullaillaco Base Camp (4,500m)
Displacement to the base of the volcano from 5 to 6 hours, visiting the Salar de Atacama. Starting point of the ascent. Here we will establish our base camp. Dinner in dining tent.
Day 7. Base Camp-Portage Camp 1-Base Camp
Beginning of work at height to equip the advanced camps. Very important for acclimatization. 5 hours of walking. This route the vehicles can help to carry water to camp 1. Return to base camp. Dinner in dining tent.
Day 8. Base Camp-Camp 1 (5,100m)
Approach to field 1 with a walk of 3 to 4 hours. Rest and dinner in dining tent.
Day 9. Field 1
Day of rest and acclimatization. On this day we can do gentle walks to help our acclimatization.
Day 10. Field 1-Portage to the high field-Field 1
Portage to the last camp with a 5-hour walk. Dinner in dining tent.
Day 11. Camp 1-Campo Alto (5,600m)
Approach to the high field walking 3 hours.
Day 12. Campo alto-Cumbre (6,770m.)
Ascent to the summit in a long day of 10 to 15 hours round trip.
Day 13.
Extra day for the summit
Day 14. High Camp-Base Camp
Descent from the high camp to the base in a 5-hour walk. Promotion celebration.
Day 15. San Pedro de Atacama
Descent to San Pedro de Atacama. Hotel accommodation.
Day 16. Flight to Santiago
Transfer to Calama airport. Flight back to Santiago. Hotel.
Day 17. Return flight
Transfer to Santiago airport. Return flight.
